La caída de Constantinopla en manos de los turcos otomanos, ocurrida el 29 de mayo de 1453 (de acuerdo con el calendario juliano vigente en esa época), fue un hecho histórico que puso fin al último vestigio del Imperio romano de Oriente y que, en la periodización clásica y según algunos historiadores, marcó también el fin de la Edad Media en Europa.

En sus 1.100 años de historia, la ciudad había vivido veintiséis asedios, y ningún atacante había logrado superar aquellas murallas, salvo una vez en 1204. Se puede decir que el asedio final por Mehmed II concluyó siendo el 27º y victorioso, acabando con lo que quedaba del Imperio Romano de Oriente.

The fall of Constantinople into the hands of the Ottoman Turks, occurred on May 29, 1453 (according to the Julian calendar in force at that time), it was a historical event that put an end to the last vestige of the Eastern Roman Empire and that, in the classic of periodization and according to some historians, it also marked the end of the Middle Ages in Europe.

In its 1,100-year history, the city had experienced twenty-six sieges, and no attacker had managed to breach those walls, except once in 1204. It can be said that the final siege by Mehmed II ended up being the 27th and victorious, ending what It was left over from the Eastern Roman Empire.
